What is a paid internship?

A paid internship is a supervised training role that provides financial compensation. It may offer practical responsibilities, structured feedback and possible exposure to full-time recruitment.

What is an unpaid internship?

An unpaid internship provides learning and work experience without a stipend. It can help students build skills and portfolios, but the role should still have clear responsibilities, supervision and genuine educational value.

Is it okay to do an unpaid internship?

Yes, if the internship offers relevant work, mentorship, measurable outcomes and manageable costs. Avoid opportunities that demand payment, provide no learning or assign unrelated repetitive work.

Does an unpaid internship count as experience?

Yes. Include the organisation, dates, role, supervisor, responsibilities, skills and measurable outcomes on your résumé. Recruiters usually value relevant work and results more than whether the internship was paid.

Which internship should students choose?

Compare the stipend, total expenses, career relevance, mentorship, safety, schedule, project quality and future opportunities. Choose the role that best supports your immediate learning or career goal.

Can a college-credit internship improve a résumé?

Yes. Academic credit confirms that the internship meets an education requirement, while the project and outcomes demonstrate practical ability. Keep your offer letter, project report, assessment and certificate.

Does a paid internship guarantee a job?

No. A paid internship may lead to a full-time offer, but conversion depends on performance, vacancies, role fit and employer policy. Ask whether previous interns received offers and what criteria were used.
