Dr T. Harinarayana is an acclaimed geophysicist and educator, renowned for his leadership in sustainable energy research and earth science innovation. With a career spanning over four decades, he brings a unique blend of scientific expertise, research leadership, and global collaboration.
He holds dual doctorates in Geophysics—one from the University of Edinburgh and another from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad—and has played transformative roles at institutions like the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), Gujarat Energy Research and Management Institute (GERMI), and now at Crescent Institute, Chennai.
At NGRI, he led critical national and international projects exploring geothermal energy, crustal dynamics, and tectonic structures. He was instrumental in launching India’s first marine magnetotelluric survey and developing remote monitoring systems for seismic activity. His pioneering work in integrating artificial intelligence with earth sciences has resulted in several patents and global research collaborations.
As a mentor, Dr Harinarayana has guided numerous doctoral and postgraduate scholars. He is a sought-after speaker and has held visiting positions at the University of Tokyo and the University of Texas at Austin. His work has earned him honours such as the National Mineral Award and the Andhra Pradesh Scientist Award, alongside fellowships with leading scientific societies.
