Dr. K. E. Prakash holds B.E., M.E., MIT, MCA and Ph.D. degrees and brings over 36 years of distinguished experience in higher education, research and academic administration. He has served with distinction as the Registrar of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), a premier State University in Karnataka.
Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Prakash has held several academic positions, including Lecturer, Assistant Professor, Professor and Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at KVG College of Engineering, Sullia over a span of 18 years. He also served as Director and Principal of Shree Devi Institute of Technology, Kenjar, Mangaluru, where he made significant contributions to institutional development and academic excellence during his 18-year tenure.
A dedicated academician and researcher, Dr. Prakash has authored and co-authored more than 60 research papers published in reputed national and international journals and conference proceedings. He has successfully guided seven Ph.D. scholars, while three research scholars are currently pursuing their doctoral studies under his supervision. In addition, he has supervised 22 undergraduate and 12 postgraduate engineering projects.
Dr. Prakash has actively contributed to the academic community by chairing technical sessions at national and international conferences and delivering numerous keynote addresses, plenary lectures and invited talks, including talks broadcast on the radio. His outstanding contributions to education and research have earned him several prestigious recognitions, including the Asian Arab Award, Best Paper Award and Outstanding Senior Faculty Award presented on Teachers’ Day and Engineers’ Day Award.
He has co-authored two textbooks on the “Design of Steel Structures” and “Design of Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) Structures”, which serve as valuable resources for engineering students and professionals.
At the university level, Dr. Prakash has held several key academic and administrative positions under VTU, including Member of the Executive Council, Chairman of the Board of Examiners (twice), Member of the Board of Studies, and Chairman of several Local Enquiry Committees. He has also served as the Chief Coordinator of Digital Scanning and Digital Valuation Centres at Mangaluru.
Dr. Prakash is an active member of several prestigious professional organisations. He is a Life Member of the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India), a Member of the Association of Consulting Civil Engineers, and a Member of the Mangalore Management Association. He also served as the Chairman of the Indian Concrete Institute, Mangaluru Centre.
Beyond academia, Dr. Prakash has demonstrated a strong commitment to community service through Rotary International. He has served as President of the Rotaract Club, Sullia, Rotary Club of Sullia, and Rotary Club of Mangalore North, contributing significantly to various social and community development initiatives.
