CMR Life Skills Institute, the training arm of the CMR Group will be organizing on-line training programs to improve the employability quotient of the students in the following areas, which will be part of their academic curriculum
1. Communication Skills – All the four areas of communication, namely LSRW (Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing), will be addressed.
Cambridge University books and materials will be followed
Students will be administered an on-line test to determine their present proficiency level in the English language, and training will be conducted at the appropriate level to bring them up to B1-B2 levels of CEFR – Common European Framework of Reference for languages.
2. Aptitude Skills – Students will be trained on about 50 topics in the following areas, on which companies test the students’ skills during recruitment. This is most often the first hurdle that students have to cross in the placement process
Quantitative Aptitude
Logical Reasoning
Verbal Ability
3. Soft Skills – Corporates look for these skills among freshers, so that they would be able to smoothly blend with the existing teams which they would become part of, once they are taken on board by the companies. The importance given to these skills is even higher than what is given to domain knowledge, since soft skills take time to learn and imbibe, while it is much easier to learn hard skills on the job.
These skills include:
Self-Awareness
Time Management
Goal Setting
Positive Attitude
Interpersonal Skills
Body Language
Presentation Skills
4. Finishing School Skills – Students polish off their personality in the penultimate semester, when they are trained in the following areas to help in their transition from the academic to the corporate / business world.
These include:
Know your etiquette
How to look your best through grooming and power dressing
How to write an impressive Resume
Do’s and don’ts while participating in a Group Discussion
Breezing through a Personal Interview with confidence
5. Practice Tests and Mock GD & PI Rounds – Students get to attempt a series of practice tests in Aptitude to improve their accuracy in solving and improving their speed, as these tests come with a time constraint.
Students are encouraged to attempt as many tests as possible on-line, which are grouped into three categories:
Topic specific tests
Full length tests
Company specific mock tests
Students are also taken through mock rounds of placements – Where they submit their Resumes, attend mock Group Discussions and Personal Interviews. Results are declared and the students are given feedback on areas where they need to improve their skills.
The process that would now be followed by companies for recruitment when the students are not physically present in the campuses will be as under:
Companies would conduct on-line tests on
Aptitude
Domain
Communication skills
Declare test results by email / SMS to students
Conduct personal interviews through video conferencing
Send appointment letters by email to the successful candidates
Once recruited, the students may be required to work from home till the current situation improves.
